DIY Citrus Dishwasher Tabs

I had a bit of a minor crisis today at my house. Last night we had an art show for the kids after dinner, so we had to run out of the house right after eating and didn’t have time to clean up. I woke up this morning to a sink full of dirty dishes. I loaded up the dishwasher and then realized I was completely out of dish washer detergent…..seriously?! It was starting out to be one of those days. You know the kind where you feel like you need to go back to bed and start it all over again, hoping it improves dramatically. But instead I decided to try to take matters into my own hands and figure out plan B. So I researched a few different recipes for dishwasher detergent online and combined a couple ideas to come up with this recipe. It smells amazing and it works great. I think I may stop buying my detergent and just make this once a month instead. Here’s what I did:

1 cup washing soda

1 cup baking soda

1 cup borax

1/2 cup salt

3 tablespoons lemon juice

1 cup water

50 drops sweet orange essential oil

Mix all the ingredients together in large bowl to make a smooth paste. make sure to smash up and clumps. spoon the paste into a small silicone mold or ice cube trays. whichever you use be sure that it will fit in your dishwasher soap tray. Allow the tbs to dry out for 24 hours. pop them out of the molds and store in an air tight container for use.

Happy Dish Washing! Hope your day is shaping up better than mine!
